An Account of the Very First Skiing Trips

Posted in Recreation Resources, Travel Tips at 12:29 pm by admin

Back in 1770 the 1st tourist hotel was opened in Chamonix Mont Blanc France.

Before this date Chamonix France constituted a savage and craggy rural village where folks hunted their own animals and farmed their cereals.

Chalets at this time were used to raise dairy herds during the summer.

The cows milk was preserved by changing it into cheese and preserved down in the valley for eating over the harsh wintertimes.

In the snow season the farms were locked up, and valuables were locked in a shack.

The person who invented the chalet holiday is obscured by time, it was probably various passionate folk who recognized a formula that was new and exciting.

For Erna Low it commenced when she was a nostalgic postgraduate and could not visit her parents in Austrias frequently as she wished.

Thus in 1932 she took a risk and placed a small ad in the broadsheets to ask clients on a skiing break. The cost was £15 and they journeyed to and from the ski resort, enjoyed breakfast and dinner and lodging in the sole inn, and paid for ski gear and tuition.

The trip was difficult, there weren’t any chair lifts, no safety fixations, only strong leather shoes, however it was so popular that Erna Low continued to take people on vacations, seeing to it that she sourced excellent lodges and ski guides.

These ski holidays during the early years were very different from the luxury ski accommodation we enjoy nowadays.

In the early days hot water was in short supply, the bathrooms would be used with all of the clients, and there wasn’t a chef; all the punters needed to help out with the chores.

It was a complete lottery as to who may share the lodge for the holiday, you could be surprised by meeting fresh skiers, or have an uncomfortable week amongst strangers.

New Caledonia, my own island getaway, is my personal favourite. The islands are glamorous. The natural beauty and the temperate mood of the island is enough to make you wake up with a smile every morning.

The entire area is a paradise, with miles of white sand and lovely swaying trees that literally sing to you. The Pacific Islands have got those exceptional blue lagoons and coral reefs that make swimming, snorkeling, diving, and fishing, something you just have to go through. Diving in the warm waters of New Caledonia is reminiscent of a lovely musky-scented spa.

A Pacific island vacation provides you the chance to go diving in what can only be claimed as the most laid back and relaxing ambiance on earth. The undersea world is nothing less than amazing, as you swim along with the dolphins and colourful fish. The island also boasts some very peaceful lagoons with crystal calm waters that offer up an marvelous range of life.

Back on land, the people of the Pacific Islands seem to be more friendly than anywhere else you’ve ever been. Anxious to help you find your next activity, the locals would stop and visit, smile and talk with you. Whether you meet them in a restaurant, or on the street, there was always a “hello”. The cities offer you exceptional food, fun and a night life that is as exhilarating and as unique as the many natural places to visit.

If You Are Planning on Going to the Chamonix Valley It’s Best to Carry out at Least a Bit of Exploration Prior to Your Skiing Holiday

Posted in Recreation Resources, Travel Tips at 5:39 am by admin

Chamonix is lauded for its skiing and boarding however, opposed to most traditional ski resorts, its snowboarding mountains are not interconnected.

In total Chamonix Mont Blanc has 5 different skiing mountains – Argentiere, the wooded area of Les Houches, le Brevent, Le Flegere and last but not least Le Tour – only two of which are interlinked, and this necessitates taking a shuttle bus or driving yourself to and from the five areas.

Thus navigating your way around can prove to be hard, and a working knowledge of the areas definitely facilitates.

If you are unused to snowboarding holidays then getting ski lessons with a Chamonix ski school would be a good idea, and they will also counsel you which Chamonix skiing pass to buy.

Plainly a a Chamonix ski map of the area shall be useful, skiing maps can be picked up at the tourist office or at all of the skiing stations.

Then you’ll need to find a ski rental store to hire your ski gear, and with a broad range of ski hire shops in Chamonix town to select there won’t be much difficulty.

Later on it is very important to find out the weather forecast, ski conditions or webcam, whilst Chamonix is a mountainous skiing domain so the atmospheric conditions shift rapidly.

If you are heading to the Chamonix valley for a holiday or a ski weekend you should find out that there’s lots to keep you engaged.

My Jamaican Honeymoon

Posted in Adventurous Life, Travel Tips at 12:30 pm by admin

I’m sure everyone who has visited The Caves Resort in Jamaica will agree with me that this is one of the best resorts in the country. And for those planning their honeymoon, don’t go looking for resorts. Just take my word and book at package at The Caves. I know what you’re thinking, this could be just like one of the movies that gets excellent reviews and doesn’t live up to your expectations. I know, I know, this is exactly what I thought as well, and I sure am glad I didn’t go to other resorts and came here. The place is really fantastic.

We had been planning our honeymoon to Jamaica for a long time and all the resorts there looked equally inviting. After reading some excellent reviews of various Jamaican resorts we zeroed in on The Caves. Let me tell you that the staff there take really good care of you and make you feel special. All this is done without invading your privacy and in a very discreet manner.

We stayed for five days at the Blue Dolphin suite, which had fantastic views of the ocean. We had lots of lovely experiences. One night we had a magical candlelit dinner in a cave which had flowers strewn all over, and on another day it was a relaxing couple’s massage. We took long walks on the beach and have some fantastic photographs of the place. We have stayed in many resorts before, but the memories we have of The Caves will last us a lifetime.

Chamonix Mont Blanc sits at the foot of the wonderful Monte Bianco in the French Alps and is recognized as the mixed climbing and extreme skiing capital of the Alps. The resort has long been known as a real resort for sports in winter and summer. Chamonix Mont Blanc held the inaugural Olympics back in the 1920s – but it’s also a domain of exceptional views proffering a lot to the adventurous skier and sightseer.

Advice to Economize during Your Snowboarding Trips

Posted in Recreation Resources, Travel Tips at 10:55 am by admin

The UK financial system began to grind to a halt many weeks ago and it does not look set to restart before long. The credit crunch, alongside the historical low value of the pound sterling versus the euro, and the annual snowboarding vacation starts to appear like a lot more of a expense than customary.

This season skiers have returned home from the holidays in Chamonix Mt Blanc with tales about the first-class snowboarding conditions and the extortionate expenses in ski resorts with expenses higher than 30 percent on last year. The more cheering tidings is that there’s umpteen reduced skiing breaks for sale, that in many instances are compensating for the gain in prices in the skiing resorts. never the less it is time to be money sensible. As luck would have it we’ve compiled a top five list to saving on this year’s ski trip.

1. Take sandwiches with you and stay out of the mountain restaurants
2. Pay in pounds – book with operators who have kept their prices in pounds and not shifted to Euros
3. Smaller ski resorts will have both cheaper accommodation and lift passes
4. Pre Book Ski Gear online for good savings
5. Discounted chalet holidays with breakfast dinner and wine included on all but one day

Fly to the UK

Posted in Travel Tips at 12:37 pm by admin

UK has always been a beautiful and interesting travel destination but, unfortunately, is not one of the cheapest. Whether people want to visit London, Liverpool or explore Loch Ness, a lot of time is spent on finding the perfect combination of cheap flight and affordable hotel or hostel. With the recent economical problems and high fees, one must assume that UK flights are almost impossible to find. However, careful planning can get you a cheap flight. There are plenty of low cost carriers flying into the UK, but not necessarily into the big airports. So fly into a small airport and then take another means of transport for the rest of the journey. In fact, the majority of UK airports located in big cities are served by low cost carriers so make sure to check out plenty of offers before deciding which deal to accept. Of course, you should consider that the majority of low cost carriers fly into airports located far from the city so you will have to pay for the transfer to the hotel. But what you pay for that will save on the hotel room, so everything evens out and you are still going to save some money. Pair such cheap flights with a last minute hotel deal and you can really say your UK vacation is cheap. And if you decide to visit the country outside its tourist season (summer), the chances of paying even less are way higher.
