Members of the boyband Boyzone recently flew to the Spanish island of Majorca to pay their respects and mourn the death of Stephen Gately. Gately, 33 years old, passed away after a night of drinking and partying at a local gay club with his partner Andrew Cowles. Cowles reportedly found Gately dead at around 1 p.m. the next day. Autopsies have shown that Gately died of a pulmonary edema, further supporting the assumptions that he choked on his own vomit. A pulmonary edema, which is also known as “water in the lungs”, occurs when liquids from blood vessels in the lungs enter the air sacs, which then can cause difficulty breathing and low oxygen in the blood.

Stephen Gately first reached stardom with the Irish boyband, Boyzone, in the 1990’s. They were an international hit, most particularly in Asia with hits such as “Isn’t It A Wonder”, and “Words”. They then split up, and Gately married Cowles in a civil ceremony in 2006. They were visiting their vacation house in Port Andratx, when he passed away. The band had reunited in 2007, releasing their comeback album “Back Again. . . No Matter What”. Gately was also the first of member of a boyband to openly admit that he was a homosexual.
Members of the band posted the message below in memory of their fellow bandmate.
“We are completely devastated by the loss of our friend and brother, Stephen. We have shared such wonderful times together over the years and were all looking forward to sharing many more. Stephen was a beautiful person in both body and spirit. He lit up our lives and those of the many friends he had all over the world. Our love and sympathy go out to Andrew and Stephen’s family. We love you and will miss you forever, Steo.”

MPM is a cancer which targets the lung pleura, or lining of the lungs. Serous membranes surround the lungs, and mesothelioma is a variety of cancer that invades those membranes. Other serous membranes can be affected as well including those encompassing the abdomen and heart. The phrase lung cancer relates strictly to cancers that first develop in the lung area.
There is a differentiation between asbestosis and peritoneal mesothelioma on account of the fact that the latter is cancer and the former is not. Asbestosis is born in the lungs and is caused by breathing in asbestos fibers that come to be fixed in the pleura. Malignant pleural mesothelioma cancer makes up roughly 75% of all mesothelioma cases.
Chest pain and shortness of breath are common symptoms, but the pain can emerge in other parts of the body. The detection often takes place when the progressing tumors widen the pleural area, inducing pain as it fills with fluid. This is referred to as pleural effusion.
Getting Tested
The usual course of action for a person suspected of peritoneal mesothelioma includes noninvasive lab tests, serum tumor markers, X-rays, and computed tomography (CT) scans of the appropriate areas. Markers are substances usually found in the blood or urine that present themselves as reactions to cancer cells. The appearance, alteration, and variation in quantity of these substances are determined to aid in the recognition of cancer and assessment of cancer treatments. Over 80% of all cases of malignant pleural mesothelioma will exhibit an enlarged pleural area in chest X-rays.
Pulmonary function exams are used to measure the ability of the lungs to intake, release, and transfer oxygen into the blood. Patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma usually exhibit restrictive breathing patterns and reduced oxygen transfer.
Quick and accurate diagnosis of MPM is of the essence in order to draw a distinction between it and adenocarcinoma, a cancer that first appears in tissues of the glands. In some occasions , a sample must be extracted by fine needle removal from the tumor, especially if there is no apparent effusion.
A Computed Tomography scan adds additional contrast and sensitivity to unearth the existence of pleural expansion, tumors, enlargement of the lymph nodes, and verification of asbestos exposure. If surgery is under review, (MRI) can assess the extent of the growth within parts of the body such as the diaphragm and ribs. It can likewise assist in the development and process of localized radiotherapy.
Recent Advances
Positron emission tomography is an imaging technique to spot chest involvement and migration of the cancer to other parts of the body. PET is nuclear-based and uses small amounts of radioactive substance to facilitate diagnosis and treatment, and has the capability to differentiate malignant pleural masses from benign masses.
In the instance that noninvasive tests are not conclusive, thoracoscopy is helpful in determining the nature and extent of pleural and lung lesions. It can be used to help in surgical operations as well as visualization of the affected area. Termed VATS, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery carries a small chance of spreading a tumor along the openings and chest tube tracts. Invasive exams such as colonoscopy and endoscopy are oftentimes called for to get rid of colon and stomach cancer.

Botulinum medicine (abbreviated to Botox) has become ingrained in Sydney society in fact it is becoming a beauty routine essential for people in the city.
But I never fail to be dumbfounded by the variety of stories which surround this simple treatment. To follow are a selection of the errors which I encounter frequently at Star Cosmetic Medicine, where I work as a doctor.
Myth Number 1: I will not be able to express myself normally!
Below the skin of the face are sixty or so muscles. The facial muscles normally function harmoniously, but over a period of time fine lines can start to form. When surplus Botox is employed facial expression may sometimes become over relaxed. Most doctors would use relatively low doses to are designed to make you appear less tired, however you will still look every bit as animated.
Indeed a carefully measured dosage of Botox in the proper site means an expressive face is retained whilst the fine lines and wrinkles are reduced.
Myth Number 2: Botox is a toxic substance!
There is a little truth in this argument. Its scientific term is Botulinum Toxin Type A. An overdose may loosen muscles that you do not want loosened and may even cause sickness.
However to maintain some perspective – a notable pharmacist’s expression is that ‘everything is a poison – all depending on the dose’. All medicines in a big enough dosage may make you unwell. If you drink too great a quantity of water you will die.
Myth Number 3: Botox is painful!
In our clinic Star Cosmetic Medicine the doctor will use a hypodermic needle smaller than human hair. Some people liken the treatments to a bug bite. It is certainly not as traumatic as something like a vaccination.
Myth Number 4: I might lose feeling in my face!
Totally incorrect. Botox targets the junction between the nerve and the facial muscle, and not on the nerves of sensation. Just the ability to relax muscles is impacted by Botox injections.
Myth Number 5. Once you start Botox you need to continue or you will have even worse wrinkles than before!
This is also incorrect.
You can expect the treatment to be effective for in the region of three months. Subsequent treatments tend to last a few weeks more. Gradually as muscle strength returns the lines will eventually reform. But they will definitely not be any worse than before.
As A Matter Of Fact the wrinkles will generally be less evident than if you had never had Botox – even if you don’t continue the treatment. This, of course is chiefly because your facial muscles and skin have had a ‘wrinkle holiday’ for a few months.
Make sure you surf to this brilliant site for Sydney Botox clinics infos

Hundreds of thousands of overweight patients, including thousands from the Wichita, KS area, have found relief to their oftentimes lifelong battle with weight loss in the form of laparoscopic band surgery. This type of weight loss surgery is also referred to as a Lap-Band. Laparoscopic band surgery involves the surgical placement of a band around the upper section of the stomach that creates a smaller pouch for food. In this way, food intake is limited so that the laparoscopic band wearer can only eat smaller portions. Laparoscopic band surgery is a very successful treatment for obesity that has literally turned the lives of many wearers around completely.
Placing a Laparoscopic Band
Unlike gastric bypass (another alternative weight loss surgery that can be dangerous), laparoscopic band surgery is relatively safe and requires a very short period of recovery time. To place the band, the device is introduced into the abdomen through tiny incisions and then routed around the part of the stomach that will become the new, smaller pouch for food. On the inside of the band, a balloon adjusts to reduce stomach size to make the wearer feel “full”. There is minimal and very unnoticeable scarring with a Lap-Band procedure.
Recovery
Laparoscopic band surgery is done under general anesthesia and is usually accomplished in under an hour. A 15cc pouch is created in the stomach with the band, and the design of the Lap-Band allows for the surgeon or other medical professional to deflate or inflate it post-operatively as needed for the patient’s particular needs.
Laparoscopic Advantages
As compared to more invasive procedures like gastric bypass for weight loss, laparoscopic surgery has many advantages. The small incision that is made during laparoscopic surgery to insert the band is around 1 centimeter long, and there is not cutting or stapling of the stomach – which means that the recuperative period following surgery is much shorter than with more invasive methods. Additionally the laparoscopic band is removable is the need arises and can be adjusted as the bariatric surgeon sees fit over the course of the wearer’s lifetime. The hospital stay when having a laparoscopic band surgery in Wichita, KS is less than two days, and quite often just one day.

You can also find many different types and fashions for children as well. It is best to get the glasses that have scratch proof lenses as well as the flexible frames. Kids have a tendency to become one with their glasses. This means that they are more capable of getting use to wearing them than adults do. They may forget to take them off when they are playing or even when they go to bed. Buying the flexible frames will assure that you will have a minimum amount of instances where they would get broke.
If it’s a pair of solid black titanium frames that fit your face comfortably or a pair of leopard print bifocals, whatever you can dream up, chances are they have it on their web page. If you are a fan or larger than life frames or small spectacles, your color options and styles are there for your picking. Like glasses that stars wore in the 60s and 70s? Pick from their retro style collection that highlights some of history’s famous frames. Want your glasses to appear invisible? Get rimless glasses that transparently provide you the vision correction you need.
You can find many styles such as “half eye” which are glasses that fit really low on your nose so that if you need to look over the top frame for distance, you are able to. There are also monocles that you can use if you have one bad eye that needs to have magnification and folding reading eyewear for an easy way to transport them wherever you go.

Considering LASIK or LASEK surgery can involve many questions. How is it done? How do I know which doctor to choose? Is it safe? Will it last? What’s involved? The following information should be helpful, but you may still have questions regarding LASIK or LASEK surgery. Since that will probably be the case, simply continue searching the Internet under New York LASEK. Many different sites will pop up and you will have a plethora of additional information to satisfy your intense curiosity. No one wants to go into something as technical as LASIK or LASEK without all your questions being met. After all we are talking about your eyes.
LASIK and LASEK are two different types of procedures. LASIK cuts a thin flap into the eye’s surface that is then lifted. Laser energy is applied to the eye for reshaping and then the flap is replaced. This flap acts as a bandage to increase healing time. LASEK, on the other hand, involves lifting the epthelial layer of the eye from its surface and then applies laser energy for reshaping. The epthelial layer is then replaced on the eye’s surface and covered by a BCL (a Bandage Contact Lens with no prescription) for healing purposes. Recover time is longer with LASEK and tradition LASIK surgery. Again, fully researching the difference is extremely helpful while you’re considering either procedure.
LASIK and LASEK surgery offers a terrific alternative to the daily grind of corrective lenses. I did some research on the Internet by typing in New York LASEK, what is LASIK, etc. and found all the answers to my questions. I was a bit apprehensive about messing with my eyes. I’m a wimp about such things anyway and the prospect of being awake with my eyes forced wide open was unsettling. But after researching LASEK and LASIK surgery, many of my concerns have been put to rest. I have also found some testimonials with stunning results. Many of the patients that underwent LASIK or LASEK surgery have found their eyesight improved to 20/20 or better.
Other answers to your questions can be found by reading as much material as you can find on the subject at your local library. Many medical periodicals have a good number of articles regarding LASIK and LASEK surgery. Ultimately, the decision to have LASIK or LASEK or to simply continue the hassle of corrective lenses will be up to you.

Medical billing specializers and insurance companies work hand in handtogether.Office staff create a chart on said patient. This chart includes the demographics of the patients. In additonal to this there is also the patients physical/ medical information. All medical procedures, treatments and diagnoses are listed in this chart making it a highly personal piece of information. After the patient finishes with the visit, the doc or qualified staff will assign a CPT code to the visit for medical billing. This CPT code (Current Procedural Terminology) defines the level of care that the patient received. This assigned code is based on the extent of the physical exam, the complexity of the medical visit and the patients medical history. The doctor will also offer a diagnosis for this patient and the visit. The diagnosis will have an attached number called an ICD -9-CM.
Both the CPT code and ICD 9 – CM along with the claim are then submitted to the insurance company by the Medical Billing specialist. The insurance group will then have their medical director review the claim. This critique will determine the legitimacy of the claim based on the patients eligibility, medical necessity and the providers credentials.
If the claim is sanctioned then payment, at a percentage, will be made to the provider. If the claim is denied then a notice is sent to the provider with an explanation attached. This has to be researched, corrected and then resubmitted. This process can be repeated many times until the insurance company agrees to pay or the provider agrees to accept little or no payment for the service. Due to the progressive complexity of claims and data entry errors, it is not uncommon to see claims denied about 50% of the time.
Because of the complexness of many claims and the fact that providers both want and need all of their entitled reimbursement, it is very important the the medical billing person be a specialist in this area. Many medical facilities have hired a medical billing office that strictly deals with billing insurances for medical reimbursements.
