Tips on Carp Fishing Including Bait Boats

Posted in Fish + Luring at 9:23 am by admin

Carp fishing is a rather challenging activity because these fish are rather clever and learn from experience and sometimes recognise fishing bait as dangerous. Even so, with some cunning, you can invite carp and fool them into being hooked. What follows are just some pointers to assist you when fishing for carp:-

  • Bring boilies based on fishmeal in the finer weather (summer and autumn), and try 50/50 combinations or bird food types of bait during the winter and spring
  • Add an abundance of salt to particle baits, particularly the cooked ones like hemp, maize, tares, beans, partiblend seeds, maple peas and chick peas. The carp savour salty food. As a rough guide, mix a single tablespoon of salt to five litres of dry particles. These are also good cheap baits to use!
  • In the wintertime when the water is cold, try throwing your fishing rigs more often, and target various areas so you can set a hook bait close to the fish. Cold water slows down the movements of carp so there’s a lesser opportunity for the fish to swim towards your hook. In the summer, you can place traps in possible patrolling areas and simply wait for the carp to take the bait.
  • If you’re concerned about overfeeding the swim, then try breadcrumb groundbait with just the attractants added, but with particle baits NOT included. This attracts the carp without stuffing them.
  • If possible, make sure not to stick round shaped bait on the hook. So many fishing lines feature rounded bait, you should feature something different. Experiment with squaring up the hook bait using scissors.
  • Lastly, make sure you have the right fishing gear with you. Research what you should bring online. You can find all kinds of things online, such as bait boats – and ensure you enjoy the time you spend by the river!
