Get plenty of sleep. If you have puffy eyes, it could be that you’re just not getting enough sleep, or the quality of the sleep you’re getting is low. Bags under the eyes is a common symptom of sleep privation.

Not enough water. Most people prone to puffy eyes are ordinarily dehydrated. If you have puffy eyes, make sure to drink more water. Set your goal for one gallon a day or at least 3 quarts. Drink water or herbal tea. Sweetened, flavored or carbonated drinks don’t count. If you drink coffee or alcohol regularly, you will need an extra glass of water for each glass of wine or cup of coffee.

Look at how you sleep. It’s not uncommon to have puffy when you first get up in the morning. One reason for this can be that if you are laying down in a flat position and then get up, the fluid that was resting under your eyes is suddenly being drawn down by gravitation. This swelling should subside soon. One way you can prevent morning puffy eyes, is to raise your head while you sleep so that the fluid under your eyes is not as abruptly drawn down when you get up.

Watch your salt intake. A high ingestion of salt may be causing you to retain fluid. Try cutting down on salt and see if that represses your puffy eyes.

Eat cleansing foods. A sluggish lymph system is a primary contributor to puffy eyes. Be sure to include lymphatic foods in your diet.

Drink cranberry or cabbage juice. These foods are diuretics, which will help you flush some surplus fluid. Other diuretics include the herbs uva ursi and golden rod.

Get additional physical activity. Exercise will improve circulation, which will stimulate your body to move fluid through your body, instead of letting it cumulate.
