Is Vedic Astrology More Accurate than Western Astrology
Astrological predictions appear in several newspapers, magazines and web sites with predictions based on Sun Signs or Moon Signs or Birth Star. Astrologers try to calculate position and properties of planets which is called zodiac. Based on these parameters, interpretation and predictions are made. This is one of the reasons why many people think that their astrology signs matter
Planets like Mercury, Venus etc. move around Sun with varying speeds and orbits. Each of these celestial objects rotates around its axis and this is called “spin. For example, earth takes about 365.24 days to make a rotation around the sun. This is called the “Solar Year”. The earth also spins around itself once in 24 hours called diurnal motion – causing day and night. In contrast, moon takes about 28 days to complete one rotation around earth. In this motion, the rotation of earth around the sun has an inclination of about 23.5 degrees which causes for different seasons of a year and variations in the duration of day / night at different places.
The sun with all its planetary system called solar system moves in space with great speed. This solar system is a star and millions of such stars constitute a galaxy. There are millions of galaxies in the cosmos, which in turn are moving with great speeds. Thus it to determine coordinate of a simple planet Relativity Theory comes into play with its definition of “Frame of Reference and Observer”. These complex motions make calculation of the position of any celestial body difficult and interpretation of their effect complex. It is further very important to note that these motions are dynamic in nature and time variant.
What we are actually seeing today is the position of a star many years back and the star might not exist today. But as the distances involved in the movement of stars is so great that for practical considerations they are assumed as a first approximation as stationary to calculate the planetary coordinates. For eg the inclination in the plane of rotation of earth of 23.5 degrees make the North South axis vary slowly and steadily. If the axis is now pointing to “Pole Star ” after 39000 years it will be pointing to Vega Star (called Alpha Lyra in astronomy).
