How To Be a Christian In the Workplace

Posted in Religion & More at 3:52 am by admin

Employment: Blood, Sweat, and Tears!

Mel Brooks, the movie producer, said it best, “Life stinks!”

If you have spent any time in the workplace, you will have observed many different kinds of attitudes, personalities, and ways of approaching the job there. We all have different personalities, habits, desires, experiences, and expectations, all converging and conflicting, and the water cooler area becomes a gathering place for hearing the latest gossip, a hotbed of conflict and chaos. Somehow, in the midst of all this, we, as Christians, are called to distinction. This rubs us against the grain of our coworkers and employers, who have conflicting ideas. The Christian enters into a struggle with identity, values, attitudes, and feelings, all producing stress and fatigue.

We are Christians, yet we are also human, and we work with Christians as well as non-Christians. We are material beings who need a livelihood to provide for the daily substance of life. >From food and shelter to leisure and entertainment, work becomes a necessary means for us to live and function in society. Work can also be a potential for so much more. A call, a vocation, or a job, whatever you call what you do in between your day of worship and church, whether it be a priest or a fry cook, we all have a purpose. We all have a job. Sometimes, it is the same, sometimes not, as we may be in the wrong place and job. Nevertheless, we have a call to be employed, to function in society, and to behave in that call.

We are also social beings, not just tools or devices, slaves or machines. We are spiritual beings who have been saved by our God and Creator and given the call to be virtuous and righteous. All our experiences, expectations, aptitudes, and attitudes come together in the workplace. And, all of these distinctions converge into our mindset and attitudes at work. So, what is the right attitude and approach with which to do our work? How do we get along with coworkers, bosses, and our God?

Work, Job or vocation is a word we use to start to describe what we do in life, vocation has its root from the Latin verb “to call;” thus, our vocation and job is actually a call, similar to a minister. So we need to understand its role and significance in our life and how we are to be in our vocation as well as what it means in our walk with our Lord. Let us venture into God’s Word and see what He has to say about what we do during the week. What and why we have work and what we are to do in that vocation and how we respond to others around us. The following passages are arranged so you can spend some time in the Word, which will help you to develop a Biblical attitude of work. Also, several thoughts based on Scriptural insights are provided for you to pray about to nudge yourself into being a better person at work. You may discover what we do is not as important as how we do it!

God’s Call For the Employee: Ephesians 6:5-8

You may feel like a slave at work. Or, perhaps you treat others in that way thinking, I am in command. They work for me, and they have to do what I say! But, the key to this passage is the attitude we are to have, that of looking to Christ as our employer so we do our work for Him. Therefore, we are to be our best for His glory, regardless of our circumstances (Rom. 8:17; Phil. 2:1-11). We may have a paycheck from McDonald’s and a boss who may need some acne treatments, but our ultimate authority and manager is Christ Himself! We show our value–that Christ paid a price for us–so, we in turn can respond with a good work ethic (1 Cor. 7:23). We must adjust our mindset to see work as an opportunity to please Him, and in so doing, be a blessing to those around us. As an employee we are called to Diligence! This allows us to operate with our best for Christ’s highest with excitement and passion in order to complete our work and call from the Lord. It is practical obedience, which is the loving of our call and the pursuing of our work so we are doing our best for His glory. (Prov. 10:4; Rom. 12:11; Colossians 3:23)

Here are some more Scriptures about being an employee: Exodus 23:12; 35:2; Proverbs 10:26; 25:13; Ecclesiastes 2:4; 5:12; Colossians 3:17,22-25; 2 Thessalonians 3:10; 1 Timothy 6:2; Titus 2:9,10; 1 Peter 2: 18-20

God’s Call For the Employer

God honors diligence and fairness. As an employer you are called to Diligence and to Fairness! These are the two characteristics we are to have in the workplace, and are especially essential for the manager. God hates the exploitation of people and will judge with severity those who do exploit others. So, why bother with the rotten characters of dishonesty and exploitation when we can have a much more efficient and happy workplace, where the workers are cared for and encouraged to produce instead of being forced and made to condescend.

Here are some more Scriptures about being an employer: Leviticus 19: 13; Deuteronomy 24:4,14; Proverbs 27: 18; Malachi 3:5; Luke 10:7; 1 Corinthians 9: 6-12; Ephesians 6:8; Colossians 3:17; 4:1; 1 Timothy 5:17,18

After reading the above selected Scriptures, ask yourself these questions:

Q: What attitudes, desires, and habits do you have that need to be changed?

Q: How can you be encouraged by God’s truths and encourage those who are in the workplace?

Q: What warning is God giving you?

Q: How can you lead a distinctive lifestyle in the workplace?

Q: Have you considered the eternal results of a healthy work attitude, even in the face of strife and chaos?

God’s Call For the Workplace As a worker, or an employer, God has a lot to say to us regarding our virtue at work.

We are called to work with respect and honor to God and others: Genesis 2: 15; 3: 15; Proverbs 6:6-8; 10:4,5,26; 12:9; 13:4; 14:23; 18:9; 22:29; 31:11-31; Ecclesiastes 3:22; 5:12; Ephesians 4:28; 1 Timothy 5: 8!

We are called to work with integrity: Proverbs 10:2; 15:27; Jeremiah 22: 13; Ephesians 4:28!

We are warned about laziness: Exodus 20:9-11; 23:12; 34:21; Proverbs 16:27; 18:9; 19: 15; 22:13; 24:30-34; 1 Thessalonians 4: 11,12; 2 Thessalonians 3:7-15!

We are called to honor just remuneration: Proverbs 3:27,28; 27:18; Luke 10:7; 1 Timothy 5: 18; James 5:1-5!

Here are some thoughts for your consideration. Remember what God calls us to do:

Our work is not to define us! Even though this may be the first question we ask someone new to us, or is asked of us, our work is what we do, not who we are! Work is not our identity or our worth!

Our worth as a Christian is who we are in Christ!

Work, in society, is center stage for our social classification and the search for identity, and can even be an addiction to fulfill our deeper needs!

Our worth as a Christian is who we are in Christ!

Ecclesiastes 2:4; 4:7-8 asks, What benefit do we gain? This passage gives us the impression that our toil and work are merely temporary. We may find work necessary in order to live, but it is not permanent or eternal.

It is not what we do that matters, but how we are!

Colossians 3:22-25. Our work may not define us, but it will either mature or devalue us. How we respond and model character will be the eternal value—our true selves. Work can even be a means through which to worship our Lord!

People will see Christ through us in the workplace–either as a God to come to, or, one from whom to be repelled. How do people at work see Christ through you?

The Dangers and Concerns In the Workplace.

How do you handle Anger? Anger is one of the biggest enemies for the employee as well as the employer! We are to be known by our love; yet, it is anger that most often communicates who we are. Thus, we must beware of its vicious and destructive ways!

Our inner feelings of inadequacy can be the fuel to the negative reaction to anger from a boss or coworker. Thus, we have to see ourselves as God sees us, redeemed, and as His child. Then we can have a healthier self-image that gives us confidence but does not allow pride.

Do not try to just ignore your anger. Walking away from, or stopping the anger, will not solve the problem, and often, even prolongs it. Put an end to the anger by seeking to solve the root of the conflict. Let the anger give you the fuel to react quickly and confidently, but do not let it control you!

Gossiping, name-calling, and/or trying to get even will only escalate the problem and give others a very wrong impression of our Lord! Remember, our essential self worth is not our job; it is who we are in Him!

Do not take anger personally! View your work as a service to Christ, not a personal, esteem-building venture!

Do not be defensive. Rather, let integrity be your guide. Virtue will build actions, even if you are under attack by an angry employer or fellow-employee. Show Christ-like character, and, in the long run, you will win out. If not, shake the dust off your feet and move on, because in God’s eyes, you are the winner!

If the employer or fellow-employee is angry, do not let it influence you! Do not acknowledge the anger, and refuse to accept the tone, because that gives it more fuel and you will lose control.

Separate the emotion of the anger from the words and content of what a person is saying. Do not respond to their anger with your own! Let them vent, then get to the root of the problem. Listen, and ask, How do you want me to resolve this? Find a solution, especially if it is your fault. And, if that be the case, take responsibility; do not blame others; deal and act!

Restate the content of their complaint in your own words without the emotion. Use phrases such as, I didn’t know you disagreed with that policy. Or, I’m glad to know how you feel. Let us find a solution about that.

Let the person know you are glad they came to you (even if they acted inappropriately, because, we all do so at some point). When you are positive and looking to help them, you will be able to defuse the anger faster than anything else you could do. Also, be in prayer, asking God to give you the strength and the appropriate words. Remember, He is there too!

Remember Christ-like attitude, and the “Fruits of the Spirit,” as well as sensibleness, self-control, and cooperation. (Romans 12:1-2; 2 Peter 1:4) Seek to emulate His character and you will excel.

Q: Do a word study on excellence by looking it up in a concordance, and see what you find. Notice how these principles affected not only the people in the Bible, but also how they could affect you. Then take those precepts and attitudes and ask yourself, How can I apply them in my workplace?

How To Use Make Up As A Fashion Accessory

Posted in Best Gender Issue Tips at 2:03 am by admin

Makeup can be one more accessory to your personal image and that’s why we are going to explain to you step by step the most flattering and easy trends so that this season you will be beautiful.

MAKEUP

There are various flattering trends this season. On the one hand, there is the natural look with earthy and gold tones, and neutral tones for the eyes and transparent but shinny lips. On the other hand, there is the sexier look with darker tones for the eyes from navy blue to purple, and (don’t forget black), and dark sexy lips.

ADVICE: Choose a look that works for you and one that you feel most comfortable with and follow the advice that we give you below.

FOUNDATION

Give a touch of something pearlescent to your foundation and you’ll achieve a modern and flattering look.

ADVICE: Apply your foundation to the entire face. Once it has been absorbed in to the skin, wait a few minutes for it to absorb, apply a small amount of illuminating powder in the T zone, forehead, cheekbones and chin. Blend it well with a brush for a pearly but natural effect. The result, light satiny skin.

COVER UP

Brighten your look by using a light cover up which is lighter than your skin tone over your foundation.

ADVICE: Blend it well around your eyes with your finger tip to take away any excess. And that’s it, a great look without bags and full of life.

EYES

For a natural look, use browns and neutral tones.

ADVICE: Apply a golden tone on the upper eyelid to achieve the look and give it a touch of light. If you want your eyes to have a stronger look, use a dark brown pencil on the inner eye.

For a sexy look, use darker tones, the ones you like the most, from navy blue to bottle green. Or if you like, use grays or blacks.

ADVICE: Don’t forget to put the darker color on your eyelid putting a blended line next to the eye lashes and put makeup on the outer eye with a black pencil. Lighten the eyelid just under the eyebrow with a pearly or shinny white for a sexy arousing look.

ESSENTIAL: Everyone notices mascara so curl your eyelashes beforehand and use two cotes to give them volume.

CHEEKBONES

Give your cheekbones a healthy look with soft rosy natural colors. ADVICE: Blend blush well with a clean brush and loose powder on your cheekbones.

LIPS

If you want a natural look, or you have put too much lipstick on, apply lip gloss for a juicy natural look.

ADVICE: Choose a lip gloss that also shines and protects your lips.

On the other hand, if you want to forget the natural look, try a passion red or a bright fushia. The result, sexy provocative, but natural lips.

ADVICE: Use a well-sharpened lip pencil that is very similar to your lipstick to outline your lips. Do this before applying lipstick so that the color will last longer and it will be easier to use darker tones.

THE FINAL TOUCH

Wash your hair with a rinse similar to the natural color of your hair to make it brighter but without changing the color.

ADVICE: Ask you hairdresser. There are rinses that naturally moisturize and give shine to the hair.

How To Get A Perfect Hair Cut

Posted in Best Gender Issue Tips at 1:36 pm by admin

The right hair cut can mean the difference between hours spent coercing every strand of your wayward hair into place or a style that falls perfectly into place with little prompting on your part. That is why it is so important to make sure that you have the perfect hair cut for your type and texture of hair.

For most people, finding the right hair cut is not possible by simply looking through a few hair cutting books and picking out their favorite styles. The truth is that hair cuts featured in the top style magazines and style books have been chosen specifically for each model that sports them. Each hair cut and style has been formulated to compliment the model’s bone structure, coloring and hair texture. That is why they look so great.

It would be foolish to think that a straight, textured cut would be possible to achieve on a client with naturally curly hair. And trying to put excessive layering on a client with thin and limp hair would result in a disastrous hair cutting experience. So, what can you do to make sure that you always get a great hair cut?

The first step to great hair cuts is finding the right stylist. Once you find a stylist with a proven record and one with whom you are comfortable, take some time to talk about what you want out of your hair cut. Ask for cuts and styles that will compliment and work with your texture of hair, not go against it. For example: If your hair is wavy, you can not expect to achieve a sleek straight style in minutes. Nor can you expect to achieve a bouffant style on fine, limp hair in a matter of minutes.

Pay attention to how your stylist communicates with you. A good stylist will be honest with you and tell you if a cut that you really want is a bad idea. On the other hand, the same stylist can use their unique hair cutting skills to adapt popular styles to suit your individual hair characteristics and craft your locks into the best hair cut you’ve ever had.

Along with your stylist, browse through hair cutting and style books and discuss different hair cuts that caught your eye. Try to look for models with hair similar to yours. It is also very important to pay attention to face shape. So, choose models with bone structures similar to yours also.

What to do when a good hair cut goes bad

Sometimes, even people who have done all of their homework get bad hair cuts. Maybe they’ve chosen a stylist with an approach to hair cutting that is not ideal for their hair type. Or maybe they’ve insisted on a hair cut that does nothing to flatter their features. Or worse yet, maybe they’ve gotten a botched hair cut from an inexperienced stylist. No matter what the reason a bad hair cut is not the end of the world. There are things that you can do to make the recovery from a bad hair cut less painful.

While it may seem strange, the first thing you need to do after receiving a bad hair cut is to go and get another one. Find a stylist who can smooth out the rough edges and carve your locks into a style that is more suited to you and more suited to the growing-out phase.

Do not stop at additional hair cutting, ask your stylist to help you find the right products to keep your tresses under control while they are recovering. Yes, it is frustrating, but in a few weeks you probably will not mind your new hair cut. You may even grow to like it.

Build Up Your Self Confidence by using Simple Fashion & Beauty Tips

Posted in Best Gender Issue Tips at 10:39 pm by admin

You are feeling good about yourself and you want to show the world that you have something to offer. You feel that way inside but you look says something totally different. How to get the outside to match how you feel on the inside? Well you have got to ‘Dress for Success’.

But how do you accomplish this? Number one you have got the dress the part and by dressing for the part I mean that you have got to dress for the job, career, or business that you want, not for the one that you currently have. Example if you wanted to be a successful Hair Stylish, you have got to look like you have your hair in order. Would want to go to a Hair Stylist whose hair was always a mess? I don’t think so. This analogy could be used in just about every profession.

Now this does not mean that you have got to go out and spend an exceptional amount of money to get a whole new look. This new look can be accomplished by adding a few pieces of accessories to your existing wardrobe.

Some of the simple tips that I find useful are:

1) Add a piece of jewelry to an outfit. It can be a nice bracelet, a simple necklace, a pair of earrings or even a nice watch. Don’t over do it with the jewelry. Just add something simple to your already existing outfit.

2) Dress up a pair of jeans. I know we dress up for work five days a week and we want a day where we can just tone things down and relax. Dressing up a pair of jeans can be as simple as changing from an old t-shirt to a nicer shirt or maybe a blouse. You can even add a simple jacket depending on the outing.

3) Update you current handbag. By adding a simple handbag you can create a totally different style in the way that an outfit looks and the way that you feel. Handbags are an accessory to any outfit and you should think of it as such.

4) Incorporate some simple beauty tips such as drinking plenty of water. Water promotes rejuvenation of the skin to give the skin a natural healthy glow.

5) Take some time out for yourself. Every one needs time to unwind and relax. In a previous article that I wrote “Finding Time to Pamper Yourself,” I outlined some tips to follow to assist in taking and making the time for yourself.

Remember that the key to looking and feeling your best is to take care of yourself. If you incorporate some of these tips that I mentioned you can be on your way to build up your self confidence while creating or updating your style.

Meditation and the Monkey Mind?

Posted in The New Age Way at 3:22 am by admin

Some find the term, “monkey mind”, upsetting, derogatory, and insulting. This is a shame, as the point is lost, the ego is involved, and a natural human defense goes up. After all, we are supposed to be the “king of the primates,” aren’t we?

The first time I heard the expression, “monkey mind,” in regard to meditation, I thought of Swayambhunath Stupa, in Kathmandu, Nepal. Sometimes, this is named, the “monkey temple,” and it made me laugh inside, as monkeys need supervision in human settings. The picture of unsupervised monkeys got into my head, and I was suppressing laughter during a serious conversation.

Monkeys can be nuisances, when allowed to roam without some guidance, and it is the same with the untrained mind that runs from topic to topic, without getting much accomplished. So please don’t waste time being offended by the term, and try to look at the comical side.

When you allow yourself to enjoy life, and try not to take anything too seriously, you can see that monkeys don’t have it so bad after all. Very often, the human mind spends too much time defending, worrying, posturing, influencing, fearing, and feeling embarrassed, to enjoy life to its fullest potential.

In fact, you are not your mind. You are responsible for your actions, but many things happen in the thought process before you do take action. For example: when you think, images and options are created. As a result of those images, you get a physical feeling somewhere around your heart.

Whether the feeling is, good or bad, you process it into action, or treat it as a fleeting thought that passes and may be forgotten. So if you have a fleeting evil thought and it passes – should you waste time feeling guilty about it? The natural safeguard for ethical behavior is your heart or “gut feeling.” This is the best indicator of wrong or right.

Mankind has the ability to influence the universe, and create different realities, but separating what is sacred, from what is evil, has been a dilemma for thousands of years. The disconnection from your inner self, nature, and God, has led to excessive confusion.

Thank God for meditation; it allows you to harness the power of the mind, settle down, and focus, on one subject at a time. If you take the time for a daily meditation practice, your decision-making process will be much more controlled and clear. The end result will be to look at the monkey with much more respect, appreciation, and a bit of humor.

“Living” Proof: We are Living in the Days of Noah

Posted in Religion & More at 11:15 am by admin

A familiar phrase used in Bible prophecy is the term “Days of Noah.” Jesus warned, “For as in the days of Noah before the flood, they were eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the very day Noah entered the ark. And they did not know or understand until the flood came and swept them all away-so will be the coming of the Son of Man (Matthew 24: 38-39.)” This illustration is used to show mankind what signs they must look for upon Christ return. The book of Genesis records that before flooding the Earth, the Lord saw that the wickedness of men was great, and that every intent of the thoughts of men’s heart was continually evil. This description can easily be applied to the current times we are living in. From all corners of the Earth, various societies can hear the bloodthirsty hearts of the terrorist beating to the same deadly drum. Are there more clues that allude to the fact that we are truly indeed living in the Days of Noah? Could there have been more going on besides the wickedness the Lord witnessed?

According to the Book of Jasher, there was certainly something else was happening. The book of Jasher is a historical book referenced in Joshua Chapter 10 Verse 13 and 2nd Samuel Chapter 1 Verse 18. It describes that during the Days of Noah:

“After the fallen angels went into the daughters of men, the sons of men taught the mixture of animals of one species with the other, in order to provoke the Lord. God saw the earth was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted its ways upon earth, all men and all animals (Jasher 4:18.)”

It may seem strange that over four thousand years ago, the mixture of species was achievable during the times of Noah. The fallen angels had the capability and understanding to do such things as genetic mixing. It is common knowledge that scientist perform genetic manipulation on different animals. That’s nothing new. However, in the last couple of years, scientists have crossed the dangerous line of creating laboratory animals with human DNA-developing mice and sheep with human livers, hearts, and brains. According to scientist, Paul Elias, “The biological co-mingling of animal and human is now evolving into even more exotic and unsettling mixes of species.”

In addition, another strong indication that we are truly living in of the Days of Noah is the parallel between the men of Noah’s day versus the men during our time. For the men in Noah’s time clearly understood a flood would soon come, yet instead of repenting-they chose evil over good. By comparison, the men during our times do not see the need to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. Sadly, they find it more important to question the validity of Christ’s return.

With the recent London homicide bombings on July 7th, 2005, most countries with the exception of the United Kingdom went on with business as usual. Just as everyone went about his or her normal lives when Noah continued to build the ark, people go about their lives ignoring the clear signs of Christ’s return. They refuse to hearken to the truth that is deeply written on their heart, opting instead to follow their own sin.

Before the flood came, people deemed Noah a lunatic and did not incline their ears to his warnings. How ironic is it that Christians are called heretics for sounding the familiar trumpet on Christ impending arrival? He is returning. My only desire is that you ask yourself a question: Do you wish to have the same fate as the people who were left outside the ark when God sealed the doors shut? Make a decision.

Winners and losers

FIRST LOVE RECOVERY MINISTRIES WINNERS AND LOSERS

John 10(KJV) verse 10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

On the stage of life, there is always three conspicuous characters that seem prominent-they are the villain, the victims, and the victors. There is only one person that really fits this role-the devil himself(John 10:10a). There are those people who seem to be villains when actually they are only victims-tools of the villain himself. There are also victims who think that their fate is irreversible! There are several people who are actually victors-more shall be written about them below. There is still a fourth character who seems to be invisible but he is always present on the stage ever ready to transform any victim into a victor-more shall be written about him below. 2 Corinthians 2(KJV) verse 14 “Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.”

“Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future.”-Oscar Wilde The above quote could be adapted to read as follows:-”Every winner has a past, and every loser has a future.” The first part of the adapted quote reminds ‘every winner’ of a past of defeat so that he/she will not glory in himself/herself as a winner but in God who gives us the victory through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ-he is the mysterious fourth character mentioned above. The second part of the adapted quote assures ‘every loser’ of a future of victory which he/she will experience when he/she trusts in God who gives us the victory through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. In the battles of life, mankind is always divided into winners and losers. But no-one is born into this world as a winner no matter how prominent that person’s cradle may be. And no-one has to die as a loser! While the transformation from a loser to a winner is a matter of personal choice, the accurate measure used to determine whether one is a loser or a winner is not made by any man. This is the reason why human traditions, philosophies, religions, arts, and sciences continue fail all who seek them as a means of change. Colossians 2(KJV) verse 8 “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.”

The measure is absolutely divine(God -ordained) so that every person can make a personal decision to trust in God for the victory! And this decision starts with the battle of all battles-’the battle against sin’! Ignoring or de-emphasizing the nature of sin does not give real victory to anyone that has ever lived on this planet! And everyone born into this world is born as a victim-a victim remains a loser until he/she is transformed into a victor through a real personal encounter with Jesus Christ.Christ Jesus carried all our sins on Calvary in our place so that we can be saved from sin when we individually trust him as Lord and Saviour! All other battles are just offspring or consequences of sin whether it is the battle against sickness, poverty, terrorism, or ignorance! If anyone thinks he has won any of those ‘lesser’ battles without winning the main battle (against sin) is still a loser/sinner. Within the context of the quote and more importantly, the scriptures,a saint is not someone who has exceptional pure character but is someone who is joined to Jesus Christ who has sent him/her apart to be holy unto God-this involves theologically both positional and progressive sanctification. Philippians 1(KJV) verse 1 “Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:”

This is the brand of righteousness that exceeds that of the Pharisees because it is grounded in the faith of Christ and empowered by the Spirit of God. Matthew 5(KJV) verse 20 ” For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.”

A saint is not a ‘religious superman or superwomen’! In summary, a saint/victor/winner is simply a sinner/victim/loser saved by God’s grace through personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. 1 John 4(KJV) verse 4 “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” The saints already have the victory because of what Christ has done for mankind on the cross! They only have to enforce this victory both singly and corporately as led by the Spirit of God through the battles of life!

Preksha Meditation

Posted in The New Age Way at 5:10 am by admin

Posture:

You may select a posture of meditation in which you can sit comfortably and steadily for a long period. The posture of meditation may be ‘full lotus-posture,’ ‘half lotus-posture,’ ’simple cross-legged posture, or ‘diamond-posture’ (Vajrasan).

Mudras : Position of the Hands

There are two alternatives: one position is called Jnana Mudra. Keep your right hand on the right knee and left hand on the left knee, keeping the palms turned up. Let the tip of the index finger touch the tip of the thumb with a slight pressure between them. Keep the other fingers straight.

The alternative position is called Brahma Mudra. Keep both the hands on your lap one above the other by keeping the palms upturned. Let the left palm remain under the right one.

Keep your eyes softly closed.

Recitation of Arham:

Start the meditation session with the repeated recitation of the mantra Arham.

Exhale fully, then inhale completely. By slow exhalation begin the intonation of the mantra. Concentrating your mind on the navel, produce the sound “A” for about two seconds. While concentrating your mind on the Centre of Bliss situated near the heart, produce the sound “Rha” for about four seconds. And lastly taking your mind upward from throat to the Centre of Knowledge situated at the top of the head, produce the sound “mmm” for about six seconds. Inhale deeply again and repeat the same exercise nine times.

Visualize that the sound waves are criss-crossing and weaving an oval-shaped web of armor all around you, protecting yourself from the evil effects of the external vibrations.

Recitation of the Mahaprana Dhvani:

Alternatively start meditation with the repeated recitation of the Mahaprana Dhvani. Exhale fully, then inhale deeply as long as you can. By slow exhalation, produce the sound “mmm” through the nostrils like buzzing of a bee, while concentrating your mind on the Centre of Knowledge situated on the top of the head and keeping the mouth closed. Inhale deeply again and repeat the same exercise nine times.

The Aphorism of the Aim:

“Sampikkhae Appagamappaenam”

Perceive and realize the deepest and highest levels of your consciousness by your conscious mind. See yourself through yourself. For perception and realization of the self, practice preksha meditation.

Resolve for Meditation:

“I am practicing preksha meditation for the purification of my mind (psyche)”. (Repeat three times)

Dawson’s Creek (Season 2) DVD Review

Posted in Movies Portal at 12:57 am by admin

Nominated for 12 Teen Choice Awards in its five-year (six season) run, including Best Drama Series, Dawson’s Creek quickly built an extensive cult following. A surprise smash hit for the enterprising WB network, the show initiated a successful string of numerous original series for WB such as Angel (1999), Gilmore Girls (2000), and Smallville (2001). Set in the fictional township of Capeside, Massachusetts, the series was nonetheless filmed almost entirely on location in Wilmington, North Carolina (although the opening theme song, “I Don’t Want To Wait,” is written and performed by Massachusetts native Paula Cole). Creator Kevin Williamson (writer for the blockbuster movie Scream) is said to have modeled the characters on Dawson’s Creek after various aspects of his own self from his adolescent years…

Dawson’s Creek follows the lives of several teenagers, some of whom grew up together, as they struggle through the tempestuous and volatile years of pre-adulthood. The title character is Dawson Leery (James Van Der Beek), an introspective and intelligent dreamer who lives nearby lifelong best friend Josephine “Joey” Potter (Katie Holmes), a tomboy unaware of how truly beautiful she is. Mutual friend Pacey Witter (Joshua Jackson) is part of their clique, as are newcomers Jennifer “Jen” Lindley (Michelle Williams), Andrea “Andie” McPhee (Meredith Monroe), and Jack McPhee (Kerr Smith). Together, the friends form the basis of a teen soap opera, complete with high drama, curiosity, and bits of comic relief. Know for its intelligent subject matter, clever dialogue, and no-holds-barred tackling of issues, Dawson’s Creek made most of its cast overnight celebrities…

The Dawson’s Creek (Season 2) DVD features a number of dramatic episodes including the season premiere “The Kiss” in which Dawson and Joey express doubts about their newly blossoming relationship, following their first kiss in the season one finale, seeing as how Joey is about to embark on a trip to France. Meanwhile, Pacey plays a trick on a new girl in town, but quickly finds the tables turned on him… Other notable episodes from Season 2 include “Tamara’s Return” in which Tamara Jacobs returns to town for the first time since leaving because of her affair with Pacey, and “Parental Discretion Advised” in which Mr. Potter’s return to a life of drug dealing has negative repercussions for everyone around him…
